A tragic series of events unfolded in a San Diego neighborhood, leaving one man dead and another in custody facing serious charges. The chaotic situation began on Sunday, when the San Diego Police Department received an alert of a shooting at a residence on Skyline Drive, followed by a potentially related incident at Moonlight Liquor on South Meadowbrook Drive.
Authorities arrived to find a man, later identified as 35-year-old Adrian Godinez, walking into the backyard of a home, his clothing and the surrounding area stained with blood. After setting a perimeter and waiting for the SWAT team, officers witnessed Godinez handle a gun, disrobe, and subsequently redress before surrendering to the police. This account was confirmed in a press release from the San Diego Police Department.
A subsequent welfare check inside the home revealed the body of 56-year-old Luis Adrian Godinez Gonzalez, who had suffered at least one gunshot wound. Despite prompt transportation to the hospital, Gonzalez was later pronounced dead. The incident inside the home is believed to have occurred shortly before the reported shooting at the liquor store. Gonzalez and the suspect, Adrian Godinez, have been identified as father and son, both residents of the house where the initial shooting took place. This was detailed in a statement acquired by Hoodline.
Adrian Godinez is currently booked on one count of murder for the death of his father and one count of attempted murder concerning the incident at the liquor store. Although originally reported as a robbery, nothing was taken from the business. The police are fervently gathering evidence at both crime scenes; meanwhile, anyone with information about the incidents is urged to contact the Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers, as information is still being solicited from the community.
