San Francisco's District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced a conviction in a domestic violence case. Lenard Powell, 61, was found guilty by a jury for an assault that occurred on March 10. In an incident where a woman was reportedly punched multiple times inside a car, Powell faces consequences for his actions under the domestic violence section of the Penal Code (PC 273.5(a)), as reported by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.

“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” Jenkins stated, emphasizing her office's commitment to prosecuting such cases and indicating the hope this conviction might provide to other survivors. The San Francisco Police responded to a call at Divisadero Street and O’Farrell Street, where officers witnessed the aftermath of the violent assault. A good Samaritan had observed and reported the victim initially lying in the street, then entering a white minivan, followed by Powell, who got in and proceeded to punch her three times before dragging her out of the vehicle.

Assistant District Attorney Madison Bouchard led the successful prosecution, supported by a team that included Investigator Rosanna Figueroa, paralegals, and the subpoena unit. In a statement obtained by the DA’s office, Bouchard expressed deep respect for the bystander who reported the incident, highlighting the crucial role of community vigilance in tackling crimes often shrouded in privacy.

Powell, currently not in custody, awaits sentencing scheduled for May 22.
