A San Francisco resident has been handed a 15-year prison sentence for his involvement in the distribution of child pornography, as per an announcement by Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick D. Robbins and Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent in Charge Tatum King. Senior U.S. District Judge Edward M. Chen imposed the sentence.

Dale Jetton, who entered a guilty plea on August 22, 2024, will now face the consequences for his actions after being caught in an undercover operation. He had begun communicating via email with what he thought was a like-minded individual in March 2023, not knowing this was an undercover law enforcement officer. In their communication, Jetton boasted about a cloud service with more than 700 megabytes of illicit content. Visibly unaware of the true identity of the officer, Jetton sent an invitation to access thirty-eight explicit videos that depicted minors, some as young as prepubescent or under 12 years old, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Since his arrest in 2023, Jetton's sentencing also includes 15 years of supervised release following his incarceration. Before his arrest, he was a registered sex offender, a scarlet letter that signaled past transgressions but served as no herald against the crime he continued to perpetrate.

The investigation, which saw the collaboration of Homeland Security Investigations, the FBI, and the San Francisco Police Department, culminates in this prosecution. Assistant United States Attorneys Roland Chang and Sophia Cooper conducted the case against Jetton. Senior U.S. District Judge Chen, handing down the sentence, made sure that once released, Jetton will remain under watchful eyes to prevent any further harm to the community.
