San Mateo resident Leqiang Wang, aged 28, was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department Airport Division last night following a month-long investigation into multiple weapons violations. According to a notification from the San Mateo Police Department, Wang was apprehended at Los Angeles International Airport and is currently awaiting transfer to San Mateo County.
The inquiry began when a community member reported to San Mateo Police on March 7 about a suspicious individual who seemed to be following her from San Francisco to San Mateo. The suspect took photos of her car, a detail that added to the woman’s distress. After the initial incident, it was discovered that the suspect had repeatedly returned to the vicinity of the community member’s home.
San Mateo Criminal Investigations Bureau took the lead in the case and executed search warrants at Wang's home. The searches yielded a cache of illegal weapons, including automatic rifles, silencers, unserialized firearms, and equipment connected to the manufacture of firearms. These findings incited the issuance of an arrest warrant against Wang.
Charges against Wang, as detailed in the aforementioned police report, include violations of multiple penal codes about unserialized firearms, possession of an assault weapon, a short-barreled rifle, a silencer, and even the utilization of a 3D printer to produce firearms or parts thereof.
