The Scottsdale City Council will review the plan for the Scottsdale Road and Dynamite Boulevard intersection at their meeting on April 8. The council is considering changing the design from a roundabout to a signalized intersection. This change could have financial implications, including the possible reallocation of federal transportation funds, according to the City of Scottsdale.

The City of Scottsdale is working to secure alternative funding for its Scottsdale Road project amid concerns that federal funds could be lost if the City Council alters the approved plans. City staff have requested to reallocate federal dollars from the Scottsdale Road project to two other regional Arterial Life Cycle Program projects. This would shift funding for the Scottsdale Road segment (Jomax to Dixileta) to Maricopa County regional transportation funds and city of Scottsdale resources, eliminating the need to comply with federal requirements.

Scottsdale's funding plan has changed for several road projects. The Scottsdale Road section from Jomax to Dixileta will continue under a local budget until a Maricopa Association of Governments request in October. The Carefree Highway project from Cave Creek to Scottsdale Road will use the original federal funding. The Raintree project from Hayden to Loop 101, which was going to have a roundabout, will not move forward. Maricopa Association of Governments plans to remove federal funding for the Scottsdale Road project in Fiscal Year 2026 to allow for reallocation. If the City Council chooses a redesign, there is a risk that federal funding may not be available for future projects. The City Council will discuss this at 5 p.m. on April 8 at City Hall, with a live stream available, as reported by the City of Scottsdale.
