For those who love to hike with their pups under the vast Arizona sky, there's an upcoming event tailored to ensure the safety of your canine companions during those sun-drenched adventures. Canine Safety Day is being organized by the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy in partnership with the Scottsdale Fire Department. It's a morning dedicated to educating pet owners on the risks and precautions necessary when hitting the trails in rising temperatures, according to the City of Scottsdale.
Slated for this Saturday, April 5, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., the event is spread across several popular trailheads - including Lost Dog, Gateway, Pima Dynamite, Brown’s Ranch, and Tom’s Thumb, located at 18333 N. Thompson Peak Parkway. Interested attendees with furry friends in tow, should note that dogs experience desert temperatures differently, a vital piece of knowledge shared at the event, as detailed by the City of Scottsdale.
According to the City of Scottsdale's website, participants will learn from experts how to spot signs of heat exhaustion in pets and how to handle heat-related emergencies. With rising temperatures and the hot desert environment, this event serves as an important reminder for pet owners to keep their dogs safe while enjoying outdoor activities.
The free event is a great opportunity for pet owners to learn how to safely enjoy the McDowell Sonoran Preserve with their dogs. The Scottsdale Fire Department will be there, offering first-aid knowledge and expert assistance.
