Next week, book lovers and community members will have an opportunity to honor the role and impact of libraries as Scottsdale Public Library joins institutions nationwide in celebration of National Library Week from Sunday through April 12. The annual event, first established in 1958, is dedicated not only to the resources libraries offer but also to their enduring ability to connect people, ignite the imagination, and foster a lifelong passion for learning.

Every year, libraries across the country throw open their doors a bit wider during National Library Week, inviting longtime patrons and newcomers alike to discover or reacquaint themselves with the services and experiences on offer. "Scottsdale Public Library is more than just a place to borrow books – it’s a hub for learning, connection and community," Mike Beck, the library director, shared in a statement highlighted by the City of Scottsdale's official news release. "We invite everyone to visit, explore and take advantage of the many services we offer."

This year's local festivities include a peek into the region's literary legacy with "Let’s Read! Scottsdale’s Literary History," presented by community historian and author Joan Fudala. The program promises to be a visually compelling journey through the literary backdrop of the city, occurring from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, at the Civic Center Library. Additionally, the library extends an invitation for a more interactive experience with "Knowasis Creations – Books Rock," from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on April 10. Patrons are encouraged to express their passion for literature artfully by crafting their literary-themed rock art.
