Authorities in Pima County are actively seeking the location of an inmate who was erroneously freed from the Pima County Adult Detention Complex last Friday. The released individual, 27-year-old Cristian Barrionuevo, was due to be handed over to the parole department instead, FOX 10 Phoenix reports.
This is not an isolated incident, as just a day prior, another inmate, Dimitri Lopez found himself on the other side of the jail walls mistakenly due to a name confusion with another detainee. Lopez was intended to be set free by pretrial services before the error was spotted, but fortunately, he was retrieved and returned to custody after two days. According to 12 News, the mismanagement has been termed a "clerical issue" by Pima County officials.
Currently, the search intensifies for Barrionuevo, who was initially jailed for a theft-related charge. In response to the situation, the Pima County Sheriff's Department has assured the public that he is considered non-violent. They are vested in a swift, yet secure resolution. "Mr. Barrionuevo is considered non-violent, and efforts to locate him safely are ongoing. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to call 9-1-1 immediately," as per PCSD, reported by FOX 10 Phoenix.
Interested parties or individuals with insights into Barrionuevo's current locale are encouraged to contact authorities forthwith. Pima County officials implore, "Officials ask that anyone who sees Barrionuevo call 911," in an ongoing effort to ensure his prompt re-apprehension.
