Seattle's commitment to sustainability was on display earlier this month when Seattle City Light and Town & Country Markets teamed up for an "Earth Day, Every Day" gathering in Shoreline, putting eco-consciousness front and center for locals. The April 5th event was a blend of education and community engagement, offering attendees hands-on tips for energy conservation, eco-friendly transportation options, and pointers for sustainable gardening, as detailed in a post on Powerlines.
Notably, the Shoreline Town & Country Market's installation of their new electric vehicle (EV) charging station was a highlight of the festivities, which now features four fast chargers - certainly making life easier for EV owners in the area, and broadening clean transportation choices which has seen a steady rise in recent years, all trying to reduce carbon footprints and foster an eco-friendly community spirit amongst residents. During the event, visitors were treated to samples from local food vendors showing off their earth-friendly products in a bid to make the day as enjoyable as it was informative.
In a statement released by Powerlines, Marina Heppenstall, the Director of Sustainability at Town & Country Markets, expressed enthusiasm about the positive impact of the EV charging stations on the Shoreline community, saying, "The EV fast charging stations that Seattle City Light installed at our Shoreline market have been a great benefit to the community." Heppenstall added, "This event was a way to celebrate these stations and to inspire community members to incorporate sustainability into their everyday lives. While mingling with the public, Seattle City Light's staff engaged with over 160 attendees during the event, providing insight on EV charging stations, energy-saving programs, and utility bill assistance. They also debuted information about the upcoming Time of Use rate; there was a buzz about career opportunities budding with City Light.
