Good news for drivers who frequent US Highway 285 in Park County, a resurfacing project is set to begin on April 28, aiming to smooth out your ride. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), together with Brannan Sand and Gravel, will tackle an eight-mile stretch from west of Bailey to Pine Junction. According to CDOT, the work includes resurfacing the highway and various ramps, as well as installing a new turn lane on northbound US 285 at County Road 64A.
The benefits are significant: the project is not just about aesthetics, it's about safety. A smoother road surface means better control of the vehicle, less risk of accidents, and decreased wear and tear on cars. The construction is also set to introduce a new guardrail for added security. For those navigating these routes, be aware that starting April 28, daytime work hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. will be observed, Monday through Friday. Come June, the project shifts to nighttime, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., to presumably lessen the impact on traffic.
However, with the promise of improved roads comes the temporary inconvenience of construction. Drivers should expect single-lane, alternating traffic along with a reduced speed limit of 40 MPH in the work zone. The CDOT has made it clear that the schedule might shuffle around should the weather decide not to cooperate. Moreover, to help you steer clear of unexpected delays, a handy map outlining the stretch under construction, including the spot for the new turn lane at County Road 64A, has been provided.
