St. Petersburg Police were called to a residence on 2nd Avenue South last Sunday after a landlord expressed concerns about being unable to contact the elderly tenant, Susan King, who had seemingly vanished. In a glance at the odd, officers reported talking to King's son, Michael Moulton, at the home, who assured them his mother was just visiting a friend and would return shortly. This detail surfaced from an official release from the St. Petersburg Police Department.
The next day, authorities returned for a follow-up visit, and upon searching the house, they discovered a grim reality: King's body, in a grim testament to the passage of time, was found decomposed. According to the preliminary autopsy cited by the police department, no signs of trauma or foul play were evident. Standing amidst the remnants of what was once a home, Moulton was detained on an outstanding arrest warrant dating back to 2013 for a failure to appear on a theft charge.
While Moulton faced questions for his past indiscretions, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding King's death continued. Police have remained tight-lipped about the case past the initial findings, indicating that this is an active investigation, and the possibility of additional charges against Moulton have not been ruled out.
Neighbors reported to the police that they hadn't seen King for an extended period, raising questions about the nature of her disappearance and the ensuing silence of the residence that was once filled with the mundane intricacies of daily life.
