Milwaukee residents in the 11th District, get ready to declutter your homes because Project Clean & Green is rolling into your neighborhood this week. Alderman Peter Burgelis has announced the return of the city's free bulky item collection service, set to begin on Monday, April 21. The initiative, aimed at helping locals dispose of oversized items without the usual hassles, is part of the City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works' efforts to maintain cleanliness and encourage environmental responsibility.

According to the city's official press release, residents should have their items ready for pickup by 7 a.m. on their regular garbage collection day, during the week of April 21-25. Crews will remove up to six cubic yards of unwanted furniture, mattresses, or household items, and garden waste — provided it's packed in paper yard waste bags. While the cleanup crews are pretty thorough, they won't take away everything, appliances, tires, televisions, and other electronics need to be dropped off at Department of Public Works Drop Off Centers, so keep those out of the pile.

"The Clean and Green program continues to be a favorite among residents, and I encourage everyone in the 11th District to take part again this year," Burgelis was quoted in the same press release. "It’s the perfect time to clear out unwanted items and tidy up around the house. Best of all, the Department of Public Works will handle the heavy lifting—and at no cost to you!" This annual initiative not only provides a practical service for residents but also supports the larger goal of keeping the district, and the city, clean and green.
