In coordinated efforts by the Springfield Police Department, Hector Lopez, a 25-year-old Springfield resident, was arrested on multiple charges, including weapon and drug offenses alongside horrifying sexual assault allegations involving a child. This development came to light following an intensive investigation led by the Special Victims Unit (SVU) and the Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU).
According to a report by the Springfield Police Department, on Friday evening, armed with an arrest warrant, police took Lopez into custody in the 1300 block of Boston Road. This followed an investigation that began two days earlier when the SVU, under the guidance of Captain Trent Duda, took action after receiving allegations about a child being sexually assaulted by an adult identified as Lopez, who reportedly wielded a gun during the incident. The traffic stop that led to Lopez's arrest also uncovered a loaded large capacity firearm and over five grams of crack cocaine on his person.
Lopez is facing a slew of charges ranging from firearm possession without a license to armed rape of a child with force. The list of charges also includes rape of a child with a ten-year age difference, threat to commit a crime, witness intimidation, stalking, strangulation or suffocation, armed kidnapping with sexual assault, and assault with a dangerous weapon. The case remains open as detectives continue their investigation. Lopez is expected to answer to these charges in the Springfield District Court.
