St. Charles Parish officials, together with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) and the Regional Planning Commission, have marked the completion of a significant infrastructure project in Luling. The event on Wednesday celebrated the $11 million worth of improvements to Paul Maillard Road, a key thoroughfare in the community.
The completion of these enhancements addresses a variety of concerns, from utility upgrades to increased safety measures. Parish President Matthew Jewell was quoted by St. Charles Parish's official site, stating, "We are proud to celebrate the first of three phases to improve utilities, drainage, and safety on a corridor that connects Old Luling to the rest of St. Charles Parish." Jewell emphasizes the last year's development and indicates that the upgrades should benefit the residents and businesses for years.
Funding for this project was obtained through strategic channels, with the Regional Planning Commission securing federal dollars to cover 80% of the costs, ensuring that the local investment was maximized. This phase focused on the stretch between Blueberry Hill Street and Angus Drive, including the installation of new sidewalks, subsurface drainage, and updated road surfacing.
Such projects are pivotal to the continual revitalization of St. Charles Parish and, specifically, the Old Luling area. The design work by Evans-Graves Engineers, Inc., and construction led by Hard Rock Construction, LLC, underpins this push towards infrastructural improvement. As noted on the Parish's website, the upgrades span from practicality with the relocation of utilities to the aesthetic with fresh milling, overlay, and roadway striping.
