
A man was fatally shot by police in Springville after he stabbed an officer with a "large knife," according to local authorities. The incident occurred late Saturday evening when police responded to a report of a woman heard "screaming and crying." The call to police was made by neighbors, as reported by ABC4.
Upon arriving at the scene, the officers attempted to make contact with the woman to investigate the situation. Shortly after, a man emerged from the residence and proceeded to abruptly attack one of the officers with a knife. Police then drew their weapons and fired to protect themselves. The man was struck by the gunfire, and KSL detailed the events following the altercation.
After the shooting, officers on the scene provided medical aid to the injured man before medical responders arrived. He was transported to Utah Valley Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead; the exact time of death was not specified, the police informed. The identity of the deceased has not been released at this time.
The Springville Police officer who suffered a stab wound during the incident was treated at a local hospital. The injuries were reported as non-life-threatening, and the officer has since been released. The ongoing investigation into the shooting is being undertaken by the Utah County Metro Officer-Involved Critical Incident team, KUTV reports.
