
The Concord Police Department has apprehended a suspected shooter, Devante Lucas Watson, following an incident near a school zone that resulted in one individual suffering non-life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound. On March 18, around 4:30 PM, the victim arrived at the John Muir Emergency Department. Officers were dispatched to the hospital and were quick to locate the scene at Esperanza Drive and Huron Drive, where the crime took place, as per the Concord Police Department.
The investigation, drawing on diverse techniques, singled out Watson as the alleged perpetrator, leading authorities to collaborate with the United States Marshal’s Service to execute his arrest at a Richmond site; during their investigation, detectives issued multiple search warrants and uncovered a loaded firearm. It has been determined that the violence was intentional and directed.
The Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office has levied a five-count felony criminal complaint against Watson, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm and discharging a firearm at an occupied motor vehicle, alongside charges related to being a felon in possession of a firearm and firing within a school zone. Watson's bail is $1.5 million, and he is being detained at the Martinez Detention Facility.
