A major heist took place at a luxury Miami Beach hotel, where 24-year-old Gregory Sean Yearty Jr. was arrested for stealing nearly $2 million worth of luxury cars. According to NBC Miami, the cars were stolen from the Setai Hotel's parking garage last year.
In an attempt to elude detection, surveillance video caught the suspect low-crawling into a the valet key room. This daring profile in theft involved the man making away with key fobs and returning later to drive off with vehicles such as a blue Rolls Royce and a gray Mercedes-Benz G-Class, as documented by the Miami Beach police. Notably, a black Cadillac Escalade was seen following one of the subsequently stolen cars into the garage—wherefrom two men absconded with two cars.
Yearty is now facing four counts of grand theft and burglary involving an occupied structure. CBS News Miami reports that the brazen theft spree kicked off on July 24, 2024, with Yearty and his accomplices capitalizing on the early morning hours to commit their crimes. The Miami Beach police pieced together the case with a combination of surveillance footage and witness interviews which led to Yearty's subsequent surrender.
Miami Beach Police Chief Wayne A. Jones highlighted the gravity of the situation, acknowledging the uptick in luxury vehicle thefts on a national scale and assuring that such acts will not be tolerated. "Miami Beach is not immune," he said. "Let this be a clear message: if you come to Miami Beach to victimize our residents and visitors, you will be held accountable," as noted by CBS News Miami.
