Attention Tacoma drivers, get ready for a slew of street closures starting next Monday going all the way until the end of May. The City of Tacoma has announced, as part of its Residential Street Restoration Program, that certain streets will be off-limits to give way to maintenance work needed to ensure smoother rides ahead.
According to the City of Tacoma's announcement, South 92nd Street between South K and South L streets will see the first wave of closures from Monday to Friday next week, this initial closure is likely to be the precursor for more intensive work on the streets that lies ahead, with South 76th Street between South Bell Street and South Yakima Avenue following suit, staying closed from April 14 through to May 30.
These closures, as noted in the city's statement, are contingent on the mercy of the skies, where sunshine or rain may speed up or delay the process; the precision of the schedule may waver. The local government insists this maintenance is crucial for the well-being of commuters and the longevity of public infrastructure where we, the people, come and go in our daily rhythms of life.
Residents looking for more intel on the project or wanting to voice concerns, perhaps about how they'll navigate around town or how prolonged detours will affect their day-to-days, can reach out to Jeff Maki by dialing (253) 591-5495 – his phone will likely be ringing more now as community members seek clarity and reassurance that this minor disruption will lead to greater communal transit harmony.
