Early this morning, Taylor Township Fire Rescue (TTFR) and Greentown fire units were busy responding to two separate incidents, a smoke report and a car crashing into a residence. According to a Facebook post from Taylor Township Fire Rescue, they were first dispatched at approximately 00:40 am yesterday to investigate smoke in the area of 200 South. Shortly thereafter, they received another call for a vehicle that had collided with a house in the 3400 block of 285 South.
The post detailed the sequence of events, highlighting the efficiency and coordination between the emergency teams. It was reported that Car 81 (C81) was at the scene of the accident, which prompted them to request Engine 81 (E81) to divert from the initial smoke call to assist with the incident. The dispatcher was then advised to reach out to the battalion chief from Kokomo fire for additional support. District 3 was also mentioned as being on hand to provide assistance.
On arrival at the accident scene, responding units determined that structural shoring was required before they could safely remove the vehicle from the house. Support was bolstered with the arrival of Kokomo Fire Department (KFD) Engine 2, Rescue 1, and Tactical 1. Mutual aid was crucial in the management of both situations, ensuring that Greentown fire covered the original smoke call while TTFR and KFD focused on the car accident.
No injuries were reported as a result of the accident or the smoke situation. TTFR used the incident as an opportunity to express their gratitude for the mutual aid provided by the different departments involved. "TTFR would like to thank each department for the mutual aid help," the social media post read, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of the local fire and rescue teams. The post concluded with relief that despite the early morning chaos, all individuals involved were safe and no injuries were reported.
