An officer-involved shooting incident is currently under investigation in Bedford County by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) following a conflict last night that left one man injured and no deputies harmed. As WSMV reports, two deputies responded to a 911 call about a suicidal man making threats on the 2000 block of State Road 64 in Shelbyville. According to preliminary findings, the situation escalated when the man began yelling, pulling out a knife and then what appeared to be a handgun, prompting the deputies to shoot.
The man wounded in the exchange was subsequently airlifted to a Nashville hospital and remains in stable condition, reports WKRN. During the investigation, the road where the incident took place was closed but has since reopened. The TBI emphasized their role in this matter, stating they are diligently working "to independently determine the series of events in the shooting, including collecting evidence and conducting interviews," as they shared with the WSMV.
In the wake of the shooting, the local community has been searching for answers as the TBI continues their meticulous review of the circumstances that led to this use of force. Confirming that no deputies were injured, the TBI noted in its preliminary report obtained by FOX 17 News that their investigative findings will ultimately be reviewed by the District Attorney General for further consideration and action. The identity of the deputies involved in the shooting has not been disclosed by authorities.
