A stolen Chevy Suburban led Killeen police on a chase that ended on school grounds last Wednesday. According to the Killeen Police Department, the incident began when officers located the vehicle, reported stolen earlier that morning, in the parking lot of the Killeen Mall around 11:22 a.m.
The situation quickly escalated when the driver, upon spotting the police, tried to flee the scene. Officers gave chase through a residential area before the Suburban barreled onto Manor Middle School property, according to the department's Public Affairs representative Ofelia Miramontez. After crashing into a fence and drainage ditches, the juvenile driver attempted to escape on foot.
Police managed to apprehend the 16-year-old male suspect shortly thereafter in the school's parking lot. They transported him to a local hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries from the crash. The teen was later placed in juvenile detention, where, due to safety protocols, it was ensured that no additional injuries occurred.
