The 16-year-old suspect involved in the death of MARTA bus driver Leroy Ramos will be tried in juvenile court. The incident, which occurred on January 3, involved a confrontation between the suspect and Ramos, which escalated when the suspect shot Ramos. Despite the severity of the charges, the case will not be prosecuted in adult court, as per the Office of the DeKalb County District Attorney release.
DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston confirmed that the decision was influenced by video evidence. The charges against two other juveniles were dropped, as they were not involved in the shooting. The case will proceed under the SB440 Unit, which handles serious juvenile cases.
The proceedings will take place in juvenile court, which is closed to the public, and the records, including the defendant's name, remain sealed. The Office of the DeKalb County District Attorney has stated there will be no further updates due to the confidentiality of the case.
