Motorists in Hamilton County should be aware of travel changes this weekend along Interstate 75. Starting tonight through next Monday, I-75 North will have lane closures for concrete repairs. According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), the right lane on I-75 North will be closed from the bridge over the CSX railroad to East Brainerd Road. This is part of the second phase of a larger project to widen and upgrade the I-75 at I-24 interchange.
Starting at 9:00 p.m. ET today, construction will lead to lane closures, and drivers are urged to exercise caution, particularly when approaching Exit 3A (East Brainerd Road), where the entrance to the exit ramp will be temporarily shifted. TDOT has stated that signage will be provided to help guide drivers through the adjusted traffic pattern. Southbound traffic on I-75 is not expected to be affected by these changes.
As stated by TDOT, the tentative schedule is subject to change based on the weather conditions. The road is expected to reopen once the newly poured concrete passes the required strength tests.
Drivers looking to avoid potential congestion may want to consider alternative routes. Uniformed police officers will be present to assist with traffic control. The agency also reminds drivers that the Move Over Law will be strictly enforced, with fines up to $500 and the possibility of jail time.
Motorists are encouraged to stay informed by checking the TDOT SmartWay Map or calling the statewide travel information line at 511 before traveling.
