An overnight tragedy struck Lincoln County as a 33-year-old man from Troy, Missouri died in an ATV crash. The incident, which occurred around 3 a.m. yesterday on Highway B East near U.S. Route 61, is under investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. FOX 2 Now reported that the ATV abruptly stopped, rolled over, which led to the driver's fatal ejection.
Reconstructing the events leading to the fatality, authorities detailed that the man was driving a 2024 Polaris ATV westbound when he unexpectedly applied the brakes. The sudden stop resulted in the ATV overturning and the man being thrown from the vehicle. Compounding the catastrophe, he was then hit by an oncoming 2003 Honda Accord, as confirmed in a statement by the Missouri State Highway Patrol to KSDK.
The driver of the Honda, a 54-year-old man from O’Fallon, Missouri, remained unharmed and the car sustained only minor damage, reported KTTN. On the scene, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office provided assistance alongside Trooper Z. T. Micks and Trooper R. A. Allee from MSHP. The damaged ATV was subsequently removed by Jackson's Towing.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by Lincoln County Ambulance District personnel at 3:40 a.m., and his remains were transported to Kemper Keim Funeral Home. This recent accident has drawn attention to the inherent risks associated with operating ATVs, particularly in the sparse light of pre-dawn hours. Continuing investigations by MSHP will seek to uncover further details about the circumstances leading up an ultimate and untimely demise.
