Two women from out of state are currently facing charges after allegedly orchestrating a string of high-value thefts from Ulta Beauty stores. According to a report by FOX10 Phoenix, Patricia Banks and Michenique Todd are accused of stealing a combined value of $4,549 worth of products from an Ulta Beauty store in Menomonee Falls. In a separate incident, two more women, Mihaela Budeanca and Luminita Zatreanu, have been implicated in thefts totaling over $350,000 from various Ulta Beauty locations, as detailed by the Racine County Eye.
Surveillance footage allowed Menomonee Falls police to identify Banks and Todd, who reportedly committed the theft between 7:06 p.m. and 7:12 p.m. on July 17, 2024. Despite charges filed and warrants issued for their arrest, the duo remains to be apprehended. Meanwhile, an effort by various law enforcement agencies successfully led to the arrest of Budeanca and Zatreanu. Investigators believe Budeanca to be responsible for 33 known incidents of theft, while Zatreanu is allegedly tied to 34 incidents with significant losses to Ulta stores nationwide, as stated by FOX10 Phoenix.
A detailed inventory report exposed the scale of the heist in Menomonee Falls, revealing that 160 items had gone missing from the Ulta Beauty shelves. The criminal complaint notes a worrying trend where "other Ulta Beauty locations have had similar reports of theft with possible the same suspects," as stated to FOX10 Phoenix by store associates. The coordination and execution of these thefts across multiple states highlight a concerning pattern of organized retail crime impacting the beauty retailer.
Racine County Eye reports that Budeanca and Zatreanu were found in possession of $6,400 worth of stolen merchandise from Ulta stores in Mundelein and Gurnee upon their arrest. It's believed that the pilfered property only represents a fraction of their alleged spree. Budeanca alone could face up to 13 years and six months in prison, alongside a $35,000 fine if convicted on all counts. Zatreanu, for her part in the thefts could face, a prison term of three years, six months, and a $10,000 fine, as reported by Racine County Eye.
Authorities are urging retail stores to stay alert and work together to prevent thefts. Ulta Beauty is dealing with the loss of both merchandise and security due to recent thefts. As the suspects face legal action, it’s clear that theft of this scale will not be ignored, and justice will aim to recover what was stolen.
