The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) has achieved notoriety for its commitment to military veterans and their families, securing a spot as a Gold Level-ranked Military Friendly® School for the 2025-26 academic year. In recognition of the school's efforts to create a supportive environment, UTA has also earned the title of a Military Spouse Friendly School, according to an article published by UT Arlington Communications.
With over 5,000 military-connected students in its fold, including 3,000 children or spouses of military personnel, UTA has fine-tuned its resources and programs to meet their distinct needs. "UTA is committed to helping veterans achieve their educational goals," Sawyer Howard, the coordinator of UTA’s Office of Military and Veteran Services, stated, as per the City of Arlington news release. "Consistently earning Gold Level status reaffirms our dedication to student success and strengthens UTA’s reputation as a top university for veterans."
The Military Friendly® School rankings are based on comprehensive data that stems from an annual survey, which in turn is developed with insights from an independent advisory council of experts in veteran education. These rankings serve as a barometer for prospective students, signaling institutions that offer meaningful educational opportunities to individuals with a military background.
Among the initiatives UTA takes pride in is the Veterans’ Edge program, a peer-mentoring scheme established in 2021. This program pairs new military-connected students with seasoned peers who share similar backgrounds, facilitating smoother transitions to university life.
