The University of Utah's lacrosse scene is getting a dash of recognition after defender Dallin Tanner snagged the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honor, a notable nod following his solid performance against the Mercer Bears, the school announced this past Monday.
Utah's defense benefitted greatly from Tanner's prowess on the field, he masterminded four caused turn overs against Mercer and capped off that effort with his inaugural goal of the season, these efforts are stacking up to illustrate the growing importance of Tanner's role on the team, and it's clear he's not just another player padding the roster rather, he’s firmly establishing himself as a key component of Utah's defensive lineup. Tanner's stat sheet is now slightly thicker, boasting a career-high of two points thus far, one goal plus an assist, showing that he's no slouch in contributing to the team's offensive push when necessary, according to Utah Utes.
On the flip side of the midfield line, Tanner has rounded up nine ground balls, with his best showing in a single match being a collection of three against Marquette. This stat further cements his reputation as a versatile asset to the Utes. As it stands, Tanner is sitting pretty at fourth place among his teammates for causing turnovers, racking up a total of eight thus far this season.
The Utes, carrying the momentum of Tanner's recent accolade and overall team success, are looking ahead to Saturday, April 12 at 11 a.m. as they host their last hurrah at home for the season a game against Jacksonville where the squad intends to pay homage to the illustrious careers of their seven graduating seniors, as detailed by the Utah Utes.
