Drivers in and around Interstate 635 can expect traffic changes and road closures as the $1.7 billion LBJ East project forges ahead. According to City of Garland, closures will commence on April 4 and impact several exits, entrances, and frontage roads.

The exit from eastbound I-635 to Garland Avenue (Exit 12) will shut down for about one month starting this Friday evening. Detours will direct drivers to use the Walnut Hill Lane/Kingsley Road/Jupiter Road exit (Exit 13) as an alternative route during this period. In addition to this, the entrance to eastbound I-635 from Jupiter Road will be moved eastward, past Shiloh Road. These changes are occurring amidst the larger endeavor to reconstruct and widen I-635 from U.S. Highway to Interstate 30, which, upon completion, will introduce 10 general-purpose lanes and two tolled managed lanes to facilitate traffic.

As part of the ongoing construction efforts, Garland Avenue will be inaccessible at I-635 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the morning of April 4. Moreover, the full closure of all Walnut Hill/Kingsley lanes at I-635 for approximately six months is slated to start on the same evening. The City of Garland's announcement also includes temporarily closing the eastbound I-635 frontage road between Kingsley Road and Jupiter Road during select overnight periods.

Other significant disruptions involve the closure of Centerville Road/Ferguson Road over the weekend and the shuttering of various entrance and exit ramps. The exits from eastbound I-635 to Miller Road (Exit 15) are likewise affected, closing overnight through Sunday morning, April 6. The Texas Department of Transportation is keeping tabs on the closure schedule, which remains dependent on weather conditions and cooperation.
