A decently sized crowd of 2,419 enjoyed the athletic spectacle under what was reportedly the perfect 81-degree weather at game start, the action on the field did not disappoint, with the teams' exchanging leads before Utah ultimately took control the game was tied 4-4 when Digiorno's double sent Tyler Quinn home and Santino Panaro managed to score after avoiding the catcher on a misplayed throw from the BYU third baseman. Matt Flaharty and Quinn led the charge on offense, each tallying multi-hit performances, and Flaharty scored three times while contributing several key hits himself.
The starting pitcher for the Utes, Merit Jones, put in a solid performance with eight strikeouts over six innings though ending up with a no-decision, and the win was secured in the latter innings by the effective relief work of Lucas Boesen and the closing prowess of Cameron Nielson, who made his rivalry debut striking out two in the ninth.
