The University of Texas at El Paso has ushered in a new era for its College of Health Sciences, tapping Dr. C. Scott Kruse to spearhead the department as dean. Kruse's blend of academic prowess and military background edged him to the front of the pack, culminating in his appointment, which was made public on Tuesday. According to UTEP, Kruse, who has been shaping the minds at Texas State University as an Associate Dean and Health Administration Professor, will officially assume his duties on July 1.
His litany of academic credentials is impressive, featuring a Ph.D. in health-related sciences from Virginia Commonwealth University and master’s degrees in healthcare administration, business, and information technology from Baylor University and the University of Texas at San Antonio. Not to be overshadowed is his bachelor’s in engineering psychology from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. UTEP President Heather Wilson expressed enthusiasm over Kruse's forthcoming contributions, saying, "UTEP is committed to healthcare in the Paso del Norte region and we look forward to welcoming Dr. Kruse to the UTEP Health team," as per UTEP.
Before making a mark in the higher education sector, Kruse was a fixture in the U.S. Army, climbing the ranks to major and taking on a swath of leadership roles, intelligence assignments, and healthcare management tasks. His tenure at Texas State University saw him in various leadership capacities, such as director of the School of Health Administration and director of Graduate Programs. These roles underscored his dedication to enriching student experiences, spearheading research initiatives, and advancing faculty development.
UTEP has also acknowledged the stewardship of Interim Dean Stacy Wagovich during a transitional phase for the college. "I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Interim Dean Stacy Wagovich for her commitment to the students, faculty and staff of the College over the last year," said UTEP Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs John Wiebe, Ph.D. "Her hard work has positioned the College well for new leadership," as obtained by UTEP. Despite the inherent challenges, Kruse's upcoming term is poised to draw on his unique mix of military discipline and academic insight, shaping the future of healthcare education at a pivotal point for the borderland university.
