A routine traffic enforcement stop on Highway 29 turned into an adrenaline-fueled chase yesterday, resulting in the arrest of a Vallejo man. American Canyon Police attempted to pull over a speeding gray Mercedes for a broken brake light, but the driver, identified as 22-year-old Ulises Guzman, had other plans.

With a broken brake light illuminating his intent, Guzman gunned the accelerator, leading officers on a northbound pursuit from South Kelly Road on Highway 29. The chase, while dangerous, eventually came to an end near the Highway 221 interchange as the Mercedes surrendered to the inevitable pull of the law.

According to the social media post from the American Canyon Police Department, Guzman and his female passenger were detained following the pursuit. Police had suspected that items were being thrown from the vehicle during the chase, prompting a thorough search of the area.

Scouring the asphalt canvas of Highway 29, officers found a loaded Glock 19 Gen5 9mm semi-automatic pistol. Police believe Guzman threw the firearm from the vehicle.

For his flight from the law, Guzman now faces a list of charges, including evading an officer with willful disregard for public safety, illegal possession, and carriage of an unregistered firearm within a vehicle, along with destruction of evidence. Upon capture, the suspect was booked into the Napa County Jail. The incident concluded without injury, and the female passenger was released.
