Preparations to overhaul a major intersection in Versailles are moving forward, with construction slated to begin next Monday. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has targeted the crossroads of Missouri Route 52 and Missouri Route 5 for the installation of a roundabout to improve traffic flow and safety.
The work zone will remain open during the construction period, despite lane closures and the presence of flaggers to guide drivers. Motorists should anticipate overnight construction activity, scheduled Monday to Friday, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., aiming for completion by mid-June, weather and conditions permitting.
In a contract valued at over $5 million, S & A Equipment & Builders, LLC has been tapped for the project, according to MoDOT. The plans not only include the new roundabout but also an expansion of Route 52 to incorporate a three-lane design, enhancing the thoroughfare's capacity and integrating a turn lane to ease congestion.
MoDOT is clear on their message to those traversing through the construction zone, stating, "MoDOT asks all motorists to work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones." Additions will be made to existing culverts, aiming to mitigate the persistent flooding problems in the area.
