A surge of violence swept through Memphis overnight, with multiple shootings reported across the city, leaving at least two people dead within a seven-hour period. The spate of incidents began just before 5:30 p.m. yesterday and continued into the early hours of the morning, according to WREG.
The Memphis Police Department is scrambling to respond to these crimes. In Frayser, a man was shot outside a McDonald's on Thomas Street and was found dead, as FOX13 Memphis reported. The police have yet to identify any suspects in this case and are urging the public to come forward with any information. Two hours later, another shooting took place at the Frayser Village Shopping Center, though details regarding injuries remain unclear.
Shortly afterwards, around 8 p.m., another shooting resulted in two fatalities on Cleoford Avenue, with one individual transported to the hospital in critical condition. Memphis Mayor Paul Young, in a statement obtained by WREG, expressed his frustration over the shootings, stating, "It makes me angry, not going to tolerate it."
Further incidents were reported later that night, including a shooting on South Wellington Street, which was actively investigated by the Memphis Police Department, as detailed by Action News 5.
