Upcoming weekends in Cameron Parish will see a full closure of a segment of LA 82 for essential infrastructure updates. The Department of Transportation and Development has communicated a schedule for these closures to facilitate the replacement of cross drain pipes. Motorists journeying on LA 82 should be aware and prepare for detours on the route.

The specified section between N. Island Road and one mile east will be inaccessible starting at 7 a.m. on Friday and continuing through midday next Sunday. An identical schedule will follow over the first two weekends of May. According to the Louisiana DOTD, closures will begin again at 7 a.m. on May 2 and May 9, concluding at 12 p.m. on the Sundays of those weekends.

Following a posted detour will be required for those affected by the closure. Eastbound travelers will be redirected via LA 82 to LA 27, then on to LA 14, to LA 35, and back to LA 82. The reverse route applies for those heading westbound. Motorists should look out for signs designed to navigate them through the alternative paths.

Officials at DOTD are reminding residents and travelers to exhibit patience and exercise due caution while moving through the construction sites. The department stresses the importance of being vigilant for the presence of work crews and their machinery, aiming to ensure everyone's safety. "DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment," stated the announcement. Active zones of construction necessitate extra awareness, whether driving, biking, or walking in the vicinity.
