Wellington resident Jaquavian Devol, age 21, was detained yesterday on charges of animal cruelty after law enforcement discovered a deceased snake and an emaciated pit bull at his home during a search warrant executed by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. The grisly scene included a dead snake in a terrarium and the pit bull in a state of extreme starvation, confined within a dirty cage, without food or water, and the authorities encountered the garage floor soiled with dried feces, as reported by CBS12.
According to the same source, the arrested individual admitted ownership of the snake, which was devoid of sustenance within its terrarium, and concerning the snake, he stated his intent to keep the skeleton after its decomposition. The condition of the pit bull, which exhibited pronounced bones, was a clear indicator of neglect and prompted intervention by the Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control for further evaluation.
The WPBF added that Devol is now facing several charges, including two counts of aggravated animal cruelty, confinement of animals, and an additional count of animal cruelty, the latter stemming from depriving the pit bull of necessary sustenance and shelter per the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report, Devol who was allegedly waiting for the snake to decompose to keep its skeleton, confirmed to law enforcement that he received the snake already dead.
Palm Beach County Jail records show Devol is being held on $4,000 bail. It is unclear if he has a lawyer or has entered a plea. The charges reflect the serious nature of the offenses found at 2524 Stonegate Drive as the case continues to unfold.
