A 13-year-old student from West Clermont Middle School has been arrested following threats to "shoot up the school," which surfaced on social media platform Snapchat. The Clermont County Sheriff's Office disclosed the incident after school administrators came across the alarming message on Thursday, as detailed by The Cincinnati Enquirer. The threats also involved direct remarks to three students while on a school bus.
The school was dismissed, and students had been sent home when the administration learned of the threat. The school's resource officer worked with the sheriff's office's investigative unit to pursue the matter, as reported by WLWT. Through their investigation, the authorities singled out an eighth-grade student allegedly responsible for the Snapchat message.
Upon questioning, the young suspect admitted to creating the threat stemming from anger over his girlfriend's suspension from the school earlier that day, claiming that he had no real intentions of acting on his words. This was supported by the student's family, who confirmed the lack of access to any form of weapon in their home, according to the statement obtained by Local12.
Following the investigation, the Clermont County Prosecutor's Office filed charges against the student, which include three counts of aggravated menacing and one count of disorderly conduct in a school zone. The young individual has been taken to the Clermont County Juvenile Detention Center and is presently on suspension from school.
