West Palm Beach is gearing up for a throwback celebration that promises to transport attendees into a whirlpool of nostalgia. On Saturday, May 3, the city will be hosting "Vintage Vibes Powered by LOVE The Palm Beaches," a community event that's all about celebrating the '80s and '90s—but with modern sensibilities. According to the city's announcement, the waterfront will come alive with live music, art, and roller skating, among other attractions. And the best part? It's free.
"Vintage Vibes is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate the vibrant culture of West Palm Beach," Mayor Keith A. James told the city's newsroom. The event's lineup includes bands Rubixx and Zendatta, taking the stage to perform '80s hits and tributes to The Police, respectively. Arcades, an outdoor roller rink, and various art workshops promise a blend of entertainment and artsy engagement for a diverse audience.
A retro gaming haven, Retro Replay, will open its doors inside the Lake Pavilion. Here, attendees can dive into classic arcade games and consoles, with hits like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong ready to reminisce the golden era of 8-bit gaming. The Remix Art Village will be a mecca for art lovers, displaying vintage-inspired pieces from local talent.
For the artistically inclined, the Remix Art Studio is set to offer art workshops with limited slots, where participants can create everything from tiny doors to canvas masterpieces. These interactive sessions are a blend of guidance and free-form creativity, "all supplies are included, and there are only 30 spots per session," as mentioned in the city's press release. A classic car show and Retro Bites from local downtown restaurants will ensure there's plenty more than just art and music to feast on.
The event appears to be more than just a festivity; it's an economic booster shot aimed at supporting local businesses. "We wanted to continue that tradition by launching a new event,” said Angela Poco, Community Events Manager of the City of West Palm Beach, in the city's newsroom, acknowledging the importance of local gatherings in an announcement. The community is gearing up to don their best '80s and '90s attire and is encouraged to do so, hoping to see a flood of acid-wash jeans and neon leggings along the scenic waterfront—which, let's face it, is a sight I wouldn't miss for all the Pogs in the world.
