Occasional showers from Friday night are expected to persist into Saturday morning in Chicago, according to WGN-TV. With the weekend ushered in under overcast skies, residents in the southern parts of the city are bracing for significant downpours that could lead to swollen rivers and flooded low-lying areas.
While the temperature is set to hover in the low 50s inland during the weekend, those by the lakeside may need to prepare for a northerly breeze bringing temperatures down to the 40s. The National Weather Service predicts highs well below the seasonal average next week, with temperatures between 5 and 13 degrees below normal. An approaching disturbance from the northwest promises a mix of rain and snow showers come Monday.
WGN-TV reports an "catastrophic and life-threatening flood event" across parts of the Lower Ohio Valley, Mid-South, and Ozarks, with certain areas already inundated by 5-10 inches of rain.
