As the Wild West Music Fest ended, the city of Maricopa is counting more than just ticket sales. The three-day event, which spanned from Friday to Sunday, is lauded not just as a musical extravaganza but also as a significant contributor to local economic vitality.
Introducing an influx of tourists and keeping entertainment dollars within city limits, the festival has promoted local spending on accommodations, shopping, and dining; this effect ripples through the economy, benefiting small businesses and service workers alike in Maricopa. According to a recent article, Terri Kimble, president and CEO of the Chandler Chamber of Commerce believes that "events like Wild West Music Fest help keep entertainment dollars local—offering Maricopa residents a reason to stay and visitors a reason to experience all the city has to offer," creating a win-win scenario for residents and proprietors.
Similar to the Chandler's Ostrich Festival, a longstanding event that has morphed into one of Arizona's crowd-pullers over three decades, the Wild West Music Fest is seen as an "instrument" and a "tool" to bring the community together, according to Kimble. The event serves as a platform to highlight local attractions and encourages Maricopans to indulge in collective revelry.
Steve LeVine, an event producer and president of Steve LeVine Entertainment, stressed the lasting benefits of such gatherings by underscoring the long-term value festivals bring to local economies and when considering these events, as he mentioned in statements, "Now it’s time to actually build something that sustains," meaning aside from one-time monetary injections, festivals like this also sow seeds for enduring prosperity by reinforcing business ties, bolstering community solidarity, and enhancing the area's desirability well beyond the final performance.
The closing note from the festival organizers suggests that the Wild West Music Fest will not be a one-off event but rather a linchpin in Maricopa's broader economic strategy. As Kimble reiterated, "Maricopa is just on the cutting edge of economic development," recognizing the festival as a valuable opportunity for the community to demonstrate their solidarity and local pride while putting Maricopa on the map as a burgeoning hub for both culture and commerce.
