A recent act of vandalism in Maricopa County has resulted in sentencing, with a woman facing legal consequences for her actions against Phoenix Pro-Palestinian protesters. The incident involved damage to the protesters' vehicles, which were marked with inflammatory words and symbols. Lisa Karlovsky, identified through surveillance footage, keyed the cars with messages such as "murderer" and "rapist," along with the Star of David, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.
The incident, which took place in January 2024 outside a Phoenix synagogue, caused nearly $45,000 in damages across more than ten vehicles. Karlovsky, who pleaded guilty, received an 18-month sentence of supervised probation for one count of Criminal Damage, a Class Four Felony.
In contrast, Bryan Long, Karlovsky’s co-defendant, was sentenced to 12 months for the same charge in December. Both sentences emphasize that such acts will not be tolerated, a message reinforced by Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell, “We’re lucky to live in a country where we’re free to disagree and hold different beliefs. But when those differences lead someone to cross over into breaking the law, they will be held accountable." This statement reinforces the divide between lawful protest and criminal acts, as the legal system continues to uphold this boundary, according to a statement from the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.
