Sarv Dharavane, an 11-year-old student at Austin Elementary in DeKalb County, earned third place in the 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee. He was one of the top finalists in the nationally recognized competition, as FOX 5 Atlanta reported.

According to Atlanta News First, Sarv advanced to the finals of the nationally televised competition, becoming the first Georgian finalist in over 20 years.

Atlanta News First reports that Dharavane’s run ended in the 19th round when he misspelled the word “eserine.” Despite the error, he placed third among nine top finalists.

In addition to spelling, Sarv enjoys origami and is currently working on folding 1,000 paper cranes. With future eligibility remaining, he may return to the national stage in coming years.
