In a recent incident that unfolded in Charlotte, a stolen vehicle case escalated into a perilous confrontation. According to a social media post by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, on Tuesday, April 8, officers were alerted to a stolen motor vehicle, a black Chevrolet Silverado. The juvenile behind the wheel was dodging police pursuit, markedly through erratic driving.
Police, assisted by OnStar, traced the stolen Silverado as the suspect attempted to evade capture. In the midst of the turmoil, the suspect's vehicle collided with another. OnStar's intervention brought the scene to a startling but non-violent halt, remotely triggering the vehicle's kill switch. The young driver then abandoned the stolen truck, rifle in hand, fleeing into the woods—an AK-47 in stark testament to the stakes of this chase. Emerging unarmed, the suspect was soon apprehended by the authorities.
The unnamed 15-year-old now faces a string of charges, including Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle, Possession of Stolen Firearm, Resist, Delay, or Obstruction, and Hit and Run causing property damage. The firearm, later located by police, had also been reported stolen. This was not the juvenile's first run-in with the law, as the individual had been taken into custody merely a week earlier under similar allegations: possession of a stolen vehicle and a concealed firearm.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have not disclosed further details about the juvenile's identity or the circumstances leading up to both arrests. However, the community has been informed that the recovered AK-47 has been linked back to its rightful owners.
