
Atlanta Police have arrested 25-year-old Melvin Marshall in connection to a fatal shooting that took place on May 17 near the Garnett MARTA station. As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, Marshall faces charges of murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Officers discovered a man with a gunshot wound to the chest at 236 Forsyth Street SW around 6:14 a.m., and the victim, still unidentified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooting happened not only in proximity to the Garnett MARTA station but also near the Greyhound bus terminal. Marshall was apprehended in DeKalb County on unrelated charges before being booked into the Fulton County Jail. According to Atlanta News First, the police have yet to release details on what might have led up to the tragic event.
The APD emphasized that while the information concerning the arrest is public, suspects are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Given that the investigation remains active, authorities caution that the details are preliminary and may be subject to change.
