In Alameda, a routine check by local police has unveiled more than just probation violations. During a series of probation compliance operations, officers from the Alameda Police Department (APD) stumbled upon a veritable treasure trove of illicit goods at the home of an individual previously convicted of felony identity theft. According to the Alameda Police Department, fraudulent forms of identification, manufacturing equipment, and other items contravening the terms of the individual’s probation were seized.
The search further yielded refund checks, credit cards, blank checks, and narcotics, with K9 Ace playing the sleuth to uncover a firearm and ammunition. The unnamed individual was arrested for multiple offenses, a seemingly never-ending list that speaks to the multifaceted nature of identity theft, which often branches out into other forms of criminality.
The APD communication outlines various proactive steps: Destroy sensitive documents, shore up digital defenses with strong passwords and multi-factor authentication, vigilantly monitor finances, and consider a credit freeze.
