An investigative report by Amnesty International has raised serious concerns regarding the treatment of detainees at the El Paso ICE processing center. The report, cited by El Paso Matters, describes "widespread human rights violations," including systematic mistreatment and arbitrary detention, as well as the lack of due legal process and access to legal resources for migrants within the facility.
In response to the findings, ICE officials have pledged to conduct an internal review. As stated by Leticia Zamarripa, ICE spokeswoman, as obtained by the El Paso Times, the agency emphasizes the prioritization of health, safety, and well-being of migrants in its care, including the provision of medical and dental attention. Zamarripa added that during Amnesty International's tour of the facility, "no one voiced any questions or concerns regarding the allegations cited in the report."
This report arrives amidst ongoing debates regarding the immigration detention system in the United States.
