Arbor View High School's Class of 2025 held its commencement ceremony at the Thomas and Mack Center. The event included a moment to honor McKenzie Scott, a senior who died earlier this month in a crash involving a suspected DUI driver. According to FOX5 Vegas, Scott's absence was acknowledged by classmates and faculty. The principal said, “Before we begin our graduation celebration, I want to take a moment to recognize a graduate that should be with us today.”
During the ceremony, Scott was remembered by classmates. Her name was the first called when students lined up for diplomas, and a moment of silence was held in her honor. One classmate, Nayeli Estrada, told FOX5 Vegas, “She used to sit next to me in government class and was a very passionate person. Even the day before she passed away, she was excited for prom.” At the same time, Scott’s family was in court as proceedings continued against Keenan Jackson, the suspected drunk driver.
Arbor View High School’s Class of 2025 graduated and honored the memory of their classmate Scott during the ceremony. Around 800 students received their diplomas and celebrated by flipping their tassels and tossing their caps. Valedictorian Greyson Renneker said, “It’s been a great place for me to learn and grow every day,” as mentioned by 8 News Now. He plans to study prelaw at the University of Southern California. Arbor View has graduated more than 11,000 students since opening in 2005.
