Ahead of the Memorial Day holiday, Athens-Clarke County Government has announced adjustments to schedules and services. All general ACCGov administrative offices and facilities, including City Hall and the Courthouse, will be closed on May 26. Regular operations are scheduled to resume the following day, May 27.
For those planning to spend Memorial Day outdoors, parks will operate under regular hours, and facilities such as Sandy Creek Park will be open to visitors. However, Sandy Creek Nature Center, Lyndon House Arts Center, and all community centers will be closed on May 26. According to the Athens-Clarke County Government, open pools and splash pads will be available for a $1 admission fee. All parks and leisure facilities are scheduled to resume normal operations the day after the holiday.
The ACCGov Solid Waste administrative offices will be closed on Memorial Day, resulting in changes to garbage and recycling collection schedules. Monday collections will be moved next Tuesday, with subsequent collections delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. While downtown commercial customers may use designated dumpsters on Monday, residential customers and businesses outside the downtown area will follow the adjusted collection schedule.
Public transportation services provided by the city will be suspended on Memorial Day, according to an ACCGov notice. Bus service is scheduled to resume Tuesday, following standard summer operating hours. Transit offices will also be closed on Monday. Additionally, Animal Services will observe the holiday, with emergency response available through the 911 system for urgent animal-related situations.
