A somber silence has descended upon the Southwest Atlanta neighborhood as the community grapples with the aftermath of a fatal shooting on Oakland Drive. On the evening of Wednesday, Atlanta Police were called to the scene at 1191 Oakland Drive SW, where a 16-year-old boy was found with a gunshot wound and pronounced dead by medical personnel, as reported by the Atlanta Police Department News. A second 16-year-old was also found injured with a gunshot wound to the buttocks and is currently receiving treatment after being transported to a local hospital.
The investigation into the circumstances that left one young man dead and another injured is currently in the hands of the Homicide Unit. According to the same Atlanta PD report, the responders arrived on scene around 8:10 p.m. in response to the shooting. Alert and conscious, the surviving victim was able to provide some information to the officers before being taken away for medical attention.
As of yet, no suspects have been named and the motives behind the violent incident remain unclear. The Atlanta Police Department urges anyone with information to come forward and help bring resolution to this case.
