In a recent update regarding a fatal shooting earlier this year, Atlanta authorities have reported that Markius Gillespie, a suspect in the case, turned himself in at Fulton County Jail. The Atlanta Police Department's news release stated that on Saturday, Gillespie, born in August 2002, was charged with murder, aggravated assault, and theft by taking in connection with the January 6 incident.
Atlanta Police initially responded to a call about a shooting at 395 Holderness St. SW on the afternoon of January 6, finding a 19-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound declared dead at the scene. The investigation by Homicide Investigators seeks to unravel the details that led to the shooting.
As is customary in our legal system, the arrest and subsequent charges do not infer guilt. The Atlanta Police Department reminds the community that everyone is presumed innocent until proven otherwise in court.
