An Aurora chiropractor is currently being held without the possibility of pre-trial release after being charged with multiple felonies involving the sexual abuse of two boys. As detailed in a DuPage County State’s Attorney's Office release, Murtaza Hameed, aged 46, faces accusations of one count of Criminal Sexual Assault, five counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, one count of Attempt Criminal Sexual Assault, alongside a count of Misdemeanor Battery.
The decision to deny Hameed's release before trial was made by Judge Demetrios Panoushis after the prosecution successfully argued against it. This legal move ensures that Hameed will remain in custody until his court appearance, scheduled for June 2, 2025. The case unfolded in January of this year when a 17-year-old boy alleged that he was sexually assaulted during a chiropractic treatment session at Hameed's office on January 11. It was reported that the boy disclosed the abuse to his father, who promptly alerted the Aurora Police Department, leading to the subsequent investigation. According to a statement obtained by the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office, the police then discovered a similar incident dating back to 2016 involving another 16-year-old boy.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin underscored the severity of the allegations, stating, "It is alleged that a seventeen-year-old boy went to Mr. Hameed for chiropractic treatment but instead of receiving the necessary care, he was sexually abused." Berlin also highlighted the importance of the victim coming forward and thanked the law enforcement officials involved in the investigation, including Aurora Police Department Investigator Jennifer Hillgoth and DuPage County Children’s Center Investigator Bruce Malkin. Assistant State's Attorney Jennifer Lindt was also commended for her role in securing the charges.
With the case now drawing public attention, Aurora Police Chief Keith Cross emphasized the seriousness with which his department is treating these allegations. "These are deeply troubling allegations involving the abuse of minors, and we take them with the utmost seriousness," Cross told the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. As efforts to ensure justice continue, Aurora officials have urged anyone with further information or who believes they may have been victimized to contact the Aurora Police Department.
